The film is based on the X-Men superhero team appearing in Marvel Comics. Its plot, inspired by the graphic novel God Loves, Man Kills , concerns the genocidal Colonel William Stryker Brian Cox leading an assault on Professor Xavier 's school to build his own version of Xavier's mutant-tracking computer Cerebro , in order to destroy every mutant on Earth and to "save" the human race from them, forcing the X-Men to team up with the Brotherhood of Mutants , their former enemies, to stop Stryker and save the mutant race. Development on the sequel began shortly after the first film was released in David Hayter and Zak Penn wrote separate scripts, combining what they felt to be the best elements of both scripts into one screenplay.
The original incarnation of the team was abandoned, in favor of a new lineup of characters. She quickly became one of the most popular characters in the series, and is often regarded to be the first black female superhero. Storm quickly asserted herself as the leader of the new X-Men and was one of the most powerful members of the team. She had a warrior's spirit in battle and a gentle heart with her friends. This is the reason why so many fans and Marvel writers grew to love the character.
