The original incarnation of the team was abandoned, in favor of a new lineup of characters. She quickly became one of the most popular characters in the series, and is often regarded to be the first black female superhero. Storm quickly asserted herself as the leader of the new X-Men and was one of the most powerful members of the team. She had a warrior's spirit in battle and a gentle heart with her friends.
